Actually, you don’t really need to be Mr Harry Potter. Whipping up a little magic will…
Make someone’s day
It’s smashp0p’s birthday today – so don’t forget to drop him just a short and sweet birthday note to him and make him feel the birthday love, shall we? Although he’s promising to choose a blogger who posts this image on his/her blog and make him/her a dazzling new blog header, I’m not digging one since I’ve violated the rules (by displaying a thumbnail instead of the full one, but you can click on it!) and I think I should reserve this rare chance to someone who needed a new blog header more than me :)
Perk up your blog
I’m been staring at my computer screen and typing furiously off the keyboard to give my other blog pages a little bit of reorganising. The revamped pages are: About, Contact, Links, Resources and the brand new CSS Tutorials page (there’s only one CSS tutorial so far). I’ve decided to do this because the page layouts have been pretty outdated as compared to the rest of the blog, their styling is generally inherited from many of the previous themes without much changes. So this time I’ve decided to add in a little magic to make them more presentable.
The links page was the most horrendous of all. It was initially just a plain ol’ simple list without much styling. After giving it much though I have thrown away the <?php wp_list_bookmarks('arguments'); ?> (read up on it at Wordpress codex?) argument for aesthetic reasons (and partially due to my repeated failure to style it into a decently-looking list of links). Then I was desperately surfing through my usual blogosphere haunts when I think Ivy’s link page looks really awesome, so I’ve decided roughly what I want my links page to look like before I start styling mindlessly again. Thanks Ivy for the inspiration, I hope you don’t mind that!
Give you nice teeth!
If you’re afraid of dental procedures, DO NOT PROCEED (in other words, proceed at your own risk).
Well what I am really yearning for is two rows of neatly arranged teeth – I’m getting bored with my rather hideous arrangement of mine, having two horribly misplaced teeth. So while I wait for university to start, my parents decided to give me a little makeover magic by getting me to do braces! I wanted that a few years back but they’ve decided it will be too troublesome – and now it’s the time!
After two trips to the dentist for rather painless tooth extraction procedures (I lost 4 teeth, anyway) and another to get the little metal anchos cemented on my teeth, I’m ready for braces! But when the dentist tightened the wires I felt like screaming because they’re pulling my teeth apart. For the first day it felt like a blur, my front incissors were so pain I can’t bite into a piece of bun. Now it’s day two and counting, I’m feeling a lot better now!

See that two little screw-like stubs? The dentist uses them to tighten the wire *yeowch!* I’m now officialy Mr Ugly Betty
Have a great weekend ahead!

As someone who used to have braces, I empathise with this process. At first, the pain is quite an annoyance, and I won’t be dishonest and say that it won’t completely go away. But when you go back for the regular wire tightenings you’ll be able to grasp the time and momentum of how long the pain will last before you eat the foods that you like. Also, if it helps, when your braces are removed, your dental hygiene greatly improves, if it isn’t so good already. =P
Will you be getting those V-shaped bristled toothbrushes? =P

I just noticed your links list.. you put me in “design”? With Ivy? You are too sweet, Teddy. Iddy bear (?) hugs back to you. =D

I’ve previously had braces for 3 years, so I definitely know what you’re going through. The first day is like, pain, feels like your mouth was hit by a softball, the awful pulling, pressure against your teeth. Getting them tightened the first few times isn’t much different. But, it’s definitely worth it. Before you know it, you’ll be posting pictures of your new smile. ;)
The thing I loved was being able to change your colors. Try to stay away from the lighter colors, as they tend to stain. I bet you’re loving the diet, eh!?
Don’t forget to wear your retainer!!!
I did at first, then I slacked, ended up losing it, and now I’ve gotten a nasty surprise. My bottom teeth have shifted right back to where they where when I first started — not as bad as they were, but they’re crooked again.

Guess I need to reorganize my webpages and links too. Yep, Ivy does have a nice and simple linkpage…hmm……

I’m still having my braces on. Ah i still can remember the day when the dentist put the wires on my teeth. It was terrible (the pain) but i like it as before i’ve started wearing braces, everybody said that it will get you thinner in some way or rather. But however, my weight is going up!! HAhahaha and you’re so strong man!
When you said ‘After two trips to the dentist for rather painless tooth extraction procedures (I lost 4 teeth, anyway)’ i was like OMGGG!! I needed to extract 4 teeth also. But i separate it all into 1 tooth each visit as i simply couldn’t bare the pain. The worst was the upper line of the teeth. And ohoh!! I used to have vampire teeth like u too!! Wait is it vampire teeth that you’re having?? Lol if no then it’s only me la.
Anyways, i can’t wait for those touch ups on your pages!! =D You truly made me want to start learning the basics on how to design my blog and not just rely on my sister.

eh oops hahaha, i didn’t realised that the pages were actually done already! Sorry about the mistake. Anyways i had the same colour as you did! Sigh but now, part of my tooth below the wires are all stained. I hope you wouldn’t mind me commenting twice!

Id: Agreed. I’m prepared for the pain to last and not fade away – the dentist was kind enough to tell me that even pain killers don’t really work. Just try to bite with those teeth that don’t hurt so much first, and try to move on to the others as the days progress. I was screaming inside when she tightened the wire because the tension on my gums are hardly bearable. And no more biting chunks of fleshy meat off a drumstick for the next 2 years! The dental assitant just reminded me to grab a small and soft toothbrush (for babies or little kids) on my way back home. Oh, and of course you do design a lot and so you ended up in the Design part, heheh  you’re welcome. Here’s a return hug!
Brandy: Woah 3 years! That’s long – the dentist promised me that this painful treatment will last at most 2.5 years, and if possible, she’ll shorten it to 2 years (but then she’ll need to tighten a little more for each visit, which gives me cold feet). The discomfort and pain is aptly described in your comments, I like it when you said it felt like a softball smashing into your teeth  yeowch! I’m currently using sky-blue bands, I might want to switch to a sexy neon green next month  teehee! Retainers are to be worn after the treatment, the dentist said. I heard they’re quite uncomfortable! Sorry to hear about the relapse (according to Wikipedia, that’s what dentists call that), but luckily it’s only for one tooth and not every single one going back to their old positions! Since my teeth is feeling so much better now, I’m eating normal food (instead of blended congee with loads of brocolli – mom was afraid that I’ll get constipation :???: lol!)
starwalker: Lol thanks!
letti: Yea that’s a lot of hardware! They hurt a little, I hope they’ll be fine after a few days.
Yappy: It’s the tightening part that is painful, plus the next 24-hours after the procedure. Read Brandy’s description – she described the pain very aptly!
Melissa: Yea I saw it from your photos :) you’re like my cousin! She put on weight instead of losing them when she had braces installed, and now she’s like 10+ pounds meatier than her pre-braces self. Now that’s weird! I’m a little skinny so I hope this miracle does the fattening up job for me! Actually the tooth extractions didn’t hurt much at all, it’s after a few hours that it hurts! Like some needles being driven into the soft, bloody and watery cavity where the extracted teeth once lie. I remembered drinking hot beverages as a nono, because it’ll make the wounds bleed. Why the hell should I be fussy if you commented twice? The more the merrier, heheh. Anyway I spend a lot of time brushing my teeth everyday… what a burden, but if that is a trade-off for stained teeth, I would rather choose brushing meticulously after every meal :D
Yeah, one of the things that I had to give up was biting off chunks of food when having those braces, but hey, you can still cut it into bits and eat it. It’s err, more “proper”, if you could call it that. And you know, two years actually isn’t that long. Then again, my dentist “promised” two years but she made it into four. Apparently, she wasn’t making enough business or something. -_-;; Again, that’s not to scare you. XD Another upside is the coloured brackets, if you get into that. =P
As for your comment, no it didn’t show up. I wonder what happened. I’m going to check my spam word list and see if there are any words there that might have activated my WP to eat your comment. =P Sorry again about that.

You have a point there! Having braces will prevent me from dining in an unsightly manner, and will make me to use proper fork and spoon instead of oily hands  and yeap the coloured bands make the whole process less painful and boring, at least I can show off my new colours every month!
4 years is a little long – 100% beyond the stipulated treatment duration  OMG! I’m sorry for what has happened. Sounds aweful!
Oh and I’m mailed the comment to you :) no worries! Sorry to trouble you.
P.S. Lets have fun Twittering each other!
I see TARTAR! lol

Wow, look at you teddY. I remember few years ago when i had to use those “wonderful” braces too :D
It was really pain in the teeth, especially the first two days to a week :D I also lost some teeth, 3 if not 4 :(
However those braces will pay handsomely when it finished it’s ‘job’, you will have great looking teeth ted ;p
PS : Do you know, they have different braces colors for you to pick. Just don’t go black :)
LogicYuan: LOL yea because that photo was taken before I brushed my teeth haha!
Hendra: Yea it was quite painful, but I guess what’s more painful is that few hours right after the tooth extraction procedure when the effects of the local anesthetic fades off and what’s left between you and pain is nothing. Haha! Well my front teeth felt a little numb today, but the rest are doing fine! I picked metal braces which are generally silver / grey in colour, but at least I get to pick what rubber bands I’m using to fasten the torturous wires. For this month, I’ve picked sky blue!
gosh, hope you’re doing fine with your braces on!
*don’t lose any more weight because you can’t chew/bite, hang on there!!* =D
remember to always keep your mouth/teeth clean, esp after meals. it’s very embarrassing to get caught with some veg stuck onto your braces when you smile haha. so best thing is rinse your mouth after every meal. it’s good hygiene practice!
braces are sexy =P
Glad to be of help for your links page! It’s really nicely organized now. Sorry for the brief comment, I’m rushing a research paper right now.

adrian: Thanks, I’m actually feeling much better than the tooth extraction procedure heheh. A few of my friends and relatives actually gained weight when having braces, I hope I’ll get that too! Oh and the dentist reminded me to brush my teeth thoroughly everytime after meal, not only to get rid of annyoing food pieces but also to make my teeth look more presentable :)
Ivy: Thanks for the inspiration Ivy  your blog has been a great source of creativity for me. Kudos! Anyway all the best for the research paper, good luck! here’s a hug… a lucky hug!
