Perfect cocktail for fun 19

If it isn’t for September now, I would have plugged Seven Days in Sunny June by Jamiroquai. The song fits this post so nicely! So basically this post will be about Chongx’s two besties, Tysern and Cheeseng (well I’ll prefer to call him Cheez from now on) coming down from Malaysia to visit Chong in Singapore. As one of Chong’s closer friends I grabbed the chance to co-host them :P and to make new friends in the process. Since I was kind of like the cameraman for most gatherings, I have the moral obligation to write as well  which makes me the unofficial publication slave for every event I attend. Lol!

The post will be a little long by my usual writings so you can either (1) scoot :D if you’re too full of inertia to gulp everything down or (2) voluntarily subject yourself to my mental torture of a long post. It’s your call! But here’s a collage to make you think twice…

Tysern and Cheez came to Singapore!

Tysern and Cheez came to Singapore!

So now click and there’s a lot more good stuff after the jump!

Tysern and Cheez arrived in Singapore on Friday and the first thing I had in mind was to freaking get my dSLR back from the Sony Service Centre. Obviously the flash unit decides to kick up a big fuss a few weeks ago and I only got the time to bring that little rascal for repairs on Monday. For some only-God-knows-why reason they had a hard time ordering a flash unit so I called and asked them to halt the repair and send it straight back to the centre so I can collect it. The camera arrived on Friday afternoon, just in time for me to skip a lecture and go fetch that rascal back.

And this reminds me of something interesting - and we’re veering off-topic! (Skip it?) I saw this lady on Monday (the day I sent my camera for repairs) throwing a hissy fit at the counter at a kind-looking woman just because she didn’t get what she wanted. I really pity her, gawd - I felt bad for not spitting in that screaming lady’s face. There you go:

I'm that picky customer who threw a hissy fit on Monday.

I can always blame it on Monday Blues... can't I?

I hate to resort to public shaming but that’s the best thing I can do to make people like her to wise up. And think twice about being bitchy over insignificant minute details. Oh, and having that weekly dosage of Monday Blues isn’t an excuse.

Back to topic, Chongx and I met up at Boon Lay Interchange and when we were just about to call Tysern and know where he was, they coincidentally appeared from the exit gantries of the MRT station almost immediately. Wow! In the end we squeezed into the campus-bound bus 179 with Tysern clinging haphazardly onto his bigass Samsonite luggage bag near the entrance of the overflowing bus (that’s an apt description for a Friday night bus when everyone scurries back onto campus).

At the on-campus McDonalds

At the on-campus McDonalds!

Oh, and did I tell you before that we have an on-campus McDonalds? After two months living on campus I still couldn’t figure out whether is it a good or a bad thing to have McDonald’s right at your doorstep. Well, at least I can get my unexplained and sudden cravings for their golden fries satisfied almost immediately (as long as it kicks in before midnight, by when the outlet will be closed until the next day).

So we brought them around campus that night and let them have a taste of the Singapore McDonalds, which purportedly served better food than their Malaysian counterparts (no bull! I’ve tried Malaysia’s McDonald’s signature fries and they were exactly golden - they were BROWN!) Actually it was my devious plan of satisfying my cravings that night I’m glad they think Singapore McDonald’s serve better food!

Cheez, Tysern and Chongx. Posers!

Cheez, Tysern and Chongx. Posers!

After supper… I don’t know was it because of the sugar rush or was it because of their desperate need to show of how much they’ve eaten, they wanted a poser photo, lol! For poser photos I can conveniently exclude myself from photos by taking them :D teehee! Anyway I didn’t eat much that evening so yep I’ve nothing much to show… ah, excuses! I noticed something - Chongx seems to love that grey shirt a lot. I have photographs of him wearing the same shirt… coincidence, or not? He wore it when we headed out for supper (look at his birthday photo) and he also wore it when we went to meet Grace at Holland Village.

Tysern was horribly fascinated by the ADM building - if you’re a regular reader you’ll know it by the buidling with a huge green grass roof. He insisted on seeing it, as if it’s on his 100 things I have to do before I die list  Well, he was right… ADM is indeed very fetching at night! Under Chongx’s coercion we mustered enough courage to climb the steeper slope of the grass roof. The climb was pretty comical because while Tysern and Chongx were having a hard time tugging their fat meat up the top, Cheez and I were preoccupied with the fear of an unstoppable fall into oblivion (which will end at a rock bed and then into a ankle deep pool of water). In the end we made it to the top without any hiccups or accidents. Patrick even managed to scale the slope as well and met up with us up there.

On top of ADM, at night.

On top of ADM, at night.

Patrick brought his iPhone, so as he gave them a walkthrough of how that Apple’s little wonder work, my shutter bug instincts got the better of me and off I went shooting a few night shots. The one above was only possible because of the flat parapet which served as a perfect premade tripod for my camera.

Deliberate lens flares made by tweaking the aperture.

Then on the next day we went downtown, brought Tysern to Esplanade and Merlion. We spotted that bull again (the last time we met it during our Clarke Quay outing - don’t bother asking why we had a long detour to Esplanade, which is a gazillion miles away from Clarke Quay) and so I make both of them pose with it.

Rendezvous with that bull with big balls.

Rendezvous with that bull with big balls.

Tysern and Chongx were so excited when they arrived at the Merlion viewing platform they started posing :D as if they just smoked crack. I didn’t mind bathing in that gorgeous sunshine too since I need a healthy tan desperately after cooping in my room all day long since university started.

At Merlion Park. Cheese! Chongx the poser. I don't know who is he trying to imitate. Tysern. I suppose that's Superman? Finally he posed for a proper photo...

Like what smashp0p will do on most occasions, I made Tysern and Chongx to do a Merlion Jump. Ah wells, Tysern’s butt was too big so it blocked out most of Merlion’s glory. Nonetheless, it’s still a jump photo!

Merlion jump! Hoozah!

Merlion jump! Hoozah!

Exhausted from the walk and dehydrated from the scorching heat, we headed off to Suntec City to cool down. We went to the Fountain of Wealth before deciding to drop by McDonalds and have Tysern treat us coke :D thanks Tysern!

At the Fountain of Weath, Suntec City.

Outside the new Suntec Station, we stumbled upon this interesting sight:

Little kids on water.

Little kids on water. Now they really look like lab mice / hamsters.

Basically shoppers will only need to spend $30 and above for their kids to enjoy a free ride on this fancy little ride - kids were placed in pressurised plastic balls and then the balls are placed on water. Sounds fun, but I find it slightly amusing that parents would actually want to pay thrity bucks to make their little sunshines look like lab mice and hamsters IN PUBLIC. Hmmm.

The next night we took a really long walk from Orchard MRT to Suntec City, passing Esplanade and Boat Quay to reach Clarke Quay. If I wasn’t wrong, we walked 7.1km, according to Google Map. WOW that’s seriously some achievement!

We walked pass Boat Quay where we heard cheers and jeers from die-hard football fans watching the Chelsea VS Manchester United match. Ah, guys and their testosterones; beer and their drunkards. I saw drunken people babbling and muttering near the riverside. I hope they don’t fall into the river! After braving a few desperate waiters and waitresses from pubs and seafood restaurants, we arrived at Clarke Quay. Thristy from the walk, I treat Tysern and Chongx ice cream! Mmmmph. I wanted to treat them Hokkaido Icecream at The Central but they vehemently refused… it’s okay, the next time when you come to Singapore I must treat you Tysern, and Chongx too!

Pubs and clubs at Clarke Quay

Pubs and clubs at Clarke Quay

We decided to drop by Hooters and have a drink and to satisfy Tysern’s curiosity of their waitresses with big… jugs. The atmosphere was pretty good because it wasn’t as crowded as Saturday night since everyone will be heading off for work the next day. With a table of three next to us, we have the whole place to ourselves.

Hooters - We had the whole pub to ourselves!

Manchester United tied with Chelsea, which kind of devastated Chongx a little (no prize for guessing he’s into which club).

Chongx @ Hooters Tysern @ Hooters

They had beer but I’m not a big fan of bitterness and hangovers, so I settled for a specialty drink called Hooter rita. Hmmm it tastes pretty good!

My drink for the night - Hooter Rita!

We were stupid enough to assume that there are night rider buses on Sunday nights. Obviously there won’t be a demand for it since everyone will be working the day after and will definitely head home early. So we had to get a cab back to our dorms. Nonetheless, it was a great night!

The next morning we woke up with no signs of hangovers… goodie! We couldn’t wake up in time so in the end we took cab to Novena Square to send Tysern and Cheez off. Now you might be wondering, where did Cheez go all the while? Well he came to Singapore on a secret mission to meet his webfriend… and they are now officially attached :) no wonder he was missing all the time! Anyway congratulations Cheez for finding your significant other - all the happiness to you both!

The end!

Agrees :D he needs more new clothes! I guess he’ll be importing a handful of them once he returns from Malaysia. Oh yea you’re in UK already! And guess what, I think my Malaysian friend is studying in the same university as Alex. It’s such a small world!

Take care over there and keep in touch!

Hey Teddy! Been a while! So sorry, been ridiculously busy these past few weeks with work. Anyways, I love the pics you took of the skyline. The lights came out really nicely. Hahaha, do share with me what aperture/shutter speed you’re using. I could never get them out that way. T___T

IMO, McDonalds on campus is a bad thing. I used to have Burger King in my high school campus, and I had wayy to many mushroom swiss and whoppers for my own good. Hahahha.

It’s okay! You’ve been really busy since you came to Singapore… and I hope you’re coping well with the workload and stress! Thanks for your compliments by the way… for the one taken at the Esplanade promenade, the aperture is f/8 and the shutter speed / exposure time is 10 seconds. I was using shutter priority mode where I set the shutter speed and the camera automatically decides on what aperture to use to get the correct exposure.

McDonalds on campus is a bad thing when it comes to controlling my budget!

Oh I didn’t use a special lens - in fact, I just used the regular lens that came with the camera. I guess what made the portrait photos look tall is because of the wider angle the lens covers as compared to conventional ones on consumer-grade digital cameras.

The night shots are not possible without that bulky tripod I was lugging around that night, but I am glad that I brought it along! My friends are definitely posers :D teehee!

Thanks! It is really summer now in Singapore because of the weird weather patterns - we should be getting tons and tons of rain and now we’re getting nothing but sun.

I didn’t take photos of the hooters because… I don’t feel the need to! Haha. Well Tysern did took a photo (and he posed WITH the waitress). I shall convince him to share that photo.

Haha yea Tysern you seriously need to get some rest! After playing so wildly in the past week, you need a good rest when the holiday is still young :D but anyway thanks for bringing me around KL the other night (and omg the ice kacang at old town seriously ROCKS)

Sorry to hear about your car! Damn that irresponsible and obviously drunk, dazed and half-awake reckless driver. I hope you can get your car repaired asap! ;) good luck!
