When The Fire Fades Away 18

Argh, Daily Life, Emotions, Me, Myself & I.

When the fire fades away is part of the lyrics for the song, Other Side of the World, by KT Tunstall. It’s a very nice song, and thank God someone invented YouTube which makes music sharing not so illegal anymore. We call it music appreciation :) teehee!

KT Tunstall

Anyway she is throwing a big concernt in Singapore today, I hated that mom stopped me from going and told me that I should be spending my pocket money more wisely. Pfft! If spending good money on quality songs and concerts isn’t the wisest way around, what is can be possible wiser than that? Burning them to keep myself warm?

People say that she doesn’t have an interesting, captivating voice, but I find that unique and gawky charm in it, setting her apart from other singers  if you’ve listened to her song, Suddenly I See (Youtube pluggie), you’ll definitely know what I mean.

Here’s the song - Other Side of the World. Enjoy!

I thought Id will be catching KT Tunstall’s concert in Singapore (as far as I know, she’s quite a fan of hers!), but I heard that she’s back in her hometown for a well-deserved break. Drop by her awesome photoblog and leave a comment? Thanks!

[Edit]: I wanted to attach the products of my evening photoshoot today, and when I was making plans to photoshop into the night, mom gets upset that I’m staying up so late and she told me that what I’m doing is absolute crap, and that I can do it on any other day. She seriously owes photography an apology - photography is a form of art and not something that you can trample on when you get frustrated that your baby boy is not sleeping early  It’s not your doormat, mom.

Gah! And since I’m going down to Singapore again this Friday (which is tomorrow!) for something urgent, I’ll be unable to reply your comments until Saturday… so hang in there! I’m gravely sorry for the delay. Take care and have a great weekend! I’ll most probably be Twittering from my phone, but I hope that won’t add up too much to the bill because I’m actually texting to Twitter’s UK number  eeks.

Nites. I hope my anger fades away just like fire.

I don’t listen to English music at all, so I have no idea who this person is. English music has been a lot of manufactured trash lately, so I’m too tired of looking through 300 artists of trash just to find one that’s worth my time. Hahaha.

    Anyways, have fun in Singapore.

That’s a very pretty picture of KT, btw. There was an expose of her in my school’s magazine but they didn’t pick particularly flattering shots of her, in my opinion.

    But yeah..
I was so upset when I learned that KT’s concert was during a time that I would be in Jakarta. But then again, I knew that attending her concert would have been out of my budget because I saw Broken Social Scene a few weeks before that and the ticket price was.. well, it wouldn’t be living up to “spending pocket money well”. XD\

I cannot believe that your mom said something like that. For all you know, she’s probably cranky. Mom spout of really amazing (and not in a good way) when they are in foul moods. It reminds me of how my parents used to be like that as well, trumping everything “art” when I was in business school. But when I escaped business school and did my degree in design, they go on saying that art is the best and they knew it was “great all along”. Alamak, some parents, ah. =P
I hope that sleeping it off made you feel better somewhat.

Have fun in Singapore this weekend!

So apparently, I can’t type.

I was meant to say this in the third paragraph:
“Moms spout off really amazing things (and not in a good way) when they are in foul moods.” Sorry for the spam!

Have a good time in Singapore!

Woah thanks a lot of taking your precious time to respond :) I actually tried to spread her music around my friends but they think that her voice is, too normal. When I introduced her songs to my brother and when he said that it’s not his type, I felt like strangling him  I’m so evil! But I guess that’s how much I adore her songs.

The cheapest tickets were about SGD75 if I’m not wrong, and when it comes to Malaysian dollar, it actually costs quite a fornute to get it. In the end my mom told me not to attend any concerts until I get a stable job - which means financial independence. Why why why.

Yea she usually says very bad stuff about things that I am interested in but she’s not. Like when I told her I am considering architecture and she rallied a whole lot of relatives who persuaded me that architecture is not good. I was so pissed off about that - if you don’t want me to take it, fine, but gathering so many people just to convince me that it’s not good? And I’m very offended about the insulting remarks she said about the industry. I couldn’t be writing them here or my head (and my blog) will be on the chopping board tomorrow morning

When I woke up on Friday morning I felt a lot better, thanks!

Wow…that photo of KT Tunstall is so beautiful! I never realized how stunning she was! But honestly, my mother is the same, except when I try and learn new things about web development she tells me, “OH, you’re wasting your time with that, you need to stop doing all that stuff”. She thinks that anytime I try to learn something new I am wasting my time and that it will cause me to fail. She is so annoying sometimes and it drives me crazy.

The only difference between me and you, is you really know what you are doing with photography and Photoshop. Me, on the other hand, I have no idea and I just push buttons and read a couple of tutorials or stare at websites trying to get how the hell they did what they did on their websites. It’s fun trying to learn how to do certain things, but it’s pretty time consuming. Me browsing through your website and admiring your photography and the works is completely out of the way for studying for my two assessments tomorrow. Toooo bad the internet is so addicting! ^_^

I googled for it  and it just caught my eye, so I thought of sharing it with you, haha! Anyway thank God when I was so crazy over javascript and HTML (back then XHTML is not very well-known yet), I’m actaully living in a hostel away from any form of parental control (except threats over the phone, so I just did tell them what I was in to), so yeap I spent 2 years learning the basics of HTML and javascript. Sad to say, after so many years of disuse I could even speak javascript anymore, but when it comes to HTML, heheh  it’s still there.

Well that’s not a big difference, Melle! I applaud your effort in reading up tutorials on the web your own. Do you know that there are so many Photoshop wannabes each year spending a whole lot of money attending Photoshop workshops? The basic skills of Photoshop can be actually self-taught… and I’m glad you’re doing that to enrich yourself *claps claps* thanks for the sweet comment, it was way sweeter than McDonald’s diabetic strawberry sundae! Awww, I’m really touched, Melle. Thanks, and it’s my honour to have a visitor like you. Hugs!

I love Suddenly I See. It was used in an episode of Ugly Betty i think which was when i fell in love with that songs.

Anyway, i’m sorry to hear your mum’s response to your passions. I think parents too often try to steer us in directions they now, having been through their youth, wished they had taken. I’m sure your mum didn’t mean what she said, that it just came out wrong in her attempt to get you to turn in early and get enough rest.

I hope you’ve somewhat simmered down since. Have a good trip to Singapore, Teddy! :)

Oh I never heard of it being used in Ugly Betty, but I’m glad the producers did! That will surely strick a chord with those who’ve watched The Devil Wears Prada - it’s used in the opening photo montage of the film.

I’m okay with it, thanks for your concern! Parents are usually like that, I’ll be mad for a while but after a good night’s sleep I’ll just forget about it  I think a lot of parents (including mine) are trying to mould their children into their old selves, which I think can be a little bit inappropriate because things have surely changed much since then!

Went to the concert. The experience is worth more than all the money spent on the pit tix + taxi fares for zooming to and fro~ I’d gladly do it all over again.

Wow that’s a lot of comments to reply! Due to the length of some comments, I’ve attached a personal reply instead.

Ivy: Wow really? But I must agree that the music we hear these days are no where in comparison with the quality ones produced in the 1990s… especially the MTVs, they’re really awesome back then. Thanks!

Eric: Same here. Most of the new songs I know either come from the soundtracks of the films I watched, or from the radio  some stations have really nice songs to listen too! I like it the way she sang “You’re…. the other side of the world”… awesome!

eddy: This is one of the best photo of her :) haha! Of course she’ll look great in it. Anyway she’s an artist, just got famous when her album Eye to the Telescope good really favourable reviews from fans and producers alike. She rose to fame in the US after her song, Suddenly I See, was used in the opening photo montage of the film, The Devil Wears Prada. It’s a shame that the song isn’t included in the official soundtrack though.

Melissa: Same here! I’m wondering why her songs didn’t get any airtime in Malaysian radio channels. What a shame!

[ene]: You’re making me very envious of you! Lucky you! I bet the concert was a blast that night, I wished I could be there to hear her sing… the experience must be so priceless!

Adam: Wow great observation! I am going to write a short post about the favicon and how it’s design came about. Stay tuned!
