teddY-risatioN™ Delta is finally ready for release after 3 days of hard work
I’m terribly sorry that I didn’t provide a sneak peek for you all - blame it on my perfectionist mindset, it instructed me to show you the complete version of this theme instead of letting you see it partially uncompleted and riddled with bugs. teddY-risatioN™ Delta is actually heavily modified from the Wordpress Sandbox Theme, and the idea of making it struck me when I designed my new blog favicon (thanks Id for the inspiration, do you know that one favicon of yours motivated me to create a whole new Wordpress theme? You’re really awesome!) And then when I was searching for easily editable, perfectly minimalistic theme, I stumbled upon Plaintxt.org and that is where the sandbox theme is available. Here’s a screenshot of it:

And now here comes a list of features in this new theme!
Features
- Scriptaculous-powered sidebar - now you can expand and collapse all the elements in the sidebar (some of them are already expanded). Just click on the headers to toggle the expand and collapse effect.
- New header - I’ve learned some neat Photoshopping tricks from Webdesigner Wall to give my header a makeover. Some obvious effects are the glowing background and particle trail effect.
- Icon navigation - I got this idea from Adobe’s Wheel-O’-Icons, where the icons are arranged around a colour wheel. So I’ve made my own colour wheel and used desired colours from the wheel to create the icons:

- Description of icons - when you hover your mouse over the icons in the navigation bar, a short description of what does it lead you to appears at the bottom. This is a javascript effect adapted from the lovely Dolphin tabs.
- Huge footer - the old classic footer is inherited from the previous theme, equipped with a huge tag cloud and other SEO junkies (but there’s a twitter feed down there too!)
- Cross-browser compatibility - this theme has been tested to work at IE6.0 and above, Firefox 1.0 and above and Safari 2.0 and above. I didn’t test it for Opera because I didn’t get it installed. Anyway less than 1% of my visitors use Opera.
Bugs
There are certain bugs in this theme, although they’re quite insignificant, it’s better to keep you posted.
- Header breaks when viewed at resolution of width: 930px and below - this is because I’ve displayed the image at the [body] element and thus when the width of the window is smaller than the container, the header breaks. So this theme is not 800*600 compatible, but is okay from 1024*768 and onwards.
- In Firefox, when the tagboard (nested in an [iframe] element) is expanded and collapsed, a minor visual bug will appear.
- Minor padding and margin discrepancies among different browsers on different operating systems.
- If you find any more bugs, report them!
Special thanks
I didn’t do this theme alone - I got help and inspiration from many helpful and wonderful people. In no specific order:
- Andy Skelton & Scott Allan Wallick (Plaintxt.org) - for released the wonderful Sandbox theme - without it this theme is barely possible.
- Id - for your amazing favicon! The header navigation system in your blog layout got me inspired as well! Thanks for your support!
- Ivy - for your minimalistic Springley theme! I used your layout for referrence, especially for the links page!
- Iva - thanks for your mail! I feel really honoured to receive it, and thanks for all the compliments that got me going!
- Nick La - for your inspirational designs and layout at N.Design Studio and Webdesigner Wall!
- Melle, Yappy, Id, Bush, Han & momo - for leaving supportive and encouraging comments that kept me going (and prevented me from falling asleep at 2am in the morning)
- Bush for being very kind and generous for writing a flattering review of my new theme. Thanks Bush!
- Shiqi for your complimetns at the tagboard! <3
- Yueqi for the refreshing tag!
That’s all for this post! I hope you guys like it!

Haha, reading your blog keeps me awake too.
Your new layout is great! I especially like the header navigation bar and the scroll-down sidebar. *thunmbs up*
Btw, how do you do the scrolldown sidebar? Any tutorials? Nice work!

@Yappy:
Thanks for the compliments, haha! Oh and scrolldown sidebar is made by making use of the pre-made effects in Scriptaculous link. I will be posting a short tutorial about it, no worries!

!!!
I typed and erased that first line like 5 times before I came up with “!!!” (#):) This theme is kicka$$. While I was very interested in what you would come up with for your new template, I honestly didn’t know if I would like it better than your last, but this is AWESOME!
You did a really great job on the colors, (I love your blues in your header and the color choice in the sidebar), footer is looking fantastic, your background is inspired and your header w/ the chemical symbol like navigation is very fresh and the buttons look great!
Can’t say enough about your new theme! Great job!

@Bush:
You’re being really generous with your compliments, I sincerley thank you for that! Oh and thanks for the fantastic review you’ve written on your blog about my new theme! I don’t think it deserves that much attention… thanks again!
Anyway I’m actually quite envious that you can handle both design and programming with ease. I am a total, complete sucker at programming, a short line of PHP is enough to get me confused and make me pull my hair out. I hate it when I’ve accidentally added some whitespace or deleted an innocent-looking question mark in m wordpress php file, which causes the entire theme to break.
I got the idea
of having elements lookalike icons when I’ve read up about the Adobe’s rebranding movement, where they’ve arranged their revamped icons around a colourwheel. I find it interesting, so I thought of using that for the icons

Wow. This feels really different. Your past versions were very bright and colourful. Like you said, and I quote, “Revamped.”
Now, Especially the header, it seems surreal and cool. Has quite some sleekness to it. I love the rounded edges all over and the very much integrated search box. Fits right in.
And finally, the tagboard is accessible from page of posts. Because Google Reader links me straight there, not to the homepage.
3 days seems a bit quick, ya know. For me, I could take 2 weeks and not produce something like this. Lack of expertise and being busy for me. Lol. And I would get frustrated half way. So it’s a really tough job. Congrats!
I have a nit to pick though. Your sidebar is a bright to fit the theme. Hope you don’t mind.

@jason:
Thanks! Yea it’s a total facelift for the blog… the past few themes have most of the styles inherited from the previous ones. This theme does inherited a few styles from previous ones (like the layout for the link page, photoshop and css tutorial pages), but for the overall appearance it has changed a lot.
The tagboard appears on all pages… I wanted to use a PHP script to specify that it is only displayed on the homepage but if I do that, it’ll break the layout of the sidebar. Oops.
Haha 3 days is indeed a little fast. Normally it’ll take 5 days or at most, 2 weeks to get a theme styled. I think I’m very motivated by comments from my readers like you
The sidebar headers are indeed a little bit too bright, I’ll be darkening them when I update this theme. Thanks for the advice!

Lovely new re-design. I love the expandable sidebars. I used it for my company’s site once but I really never thought about using it on my site since I’m afraid people would surf without javascript.
My favorite has got to be the header though. Very nicely executed. And looks amazing!
Good job, Teddy!

Oh yea you’ve got a point there! I never really gave it a though because I thought most of my visitors have javascript enabled by default. The last time I’ve checked, about 100% of my visitors have javascript enabled (I think there’s a few who didn’t though).
Thanks for the compliments!

I LOVE the redesign Teddy!! Its so clean and sleek. That was one short hiatus- you were back before I even got a chance to miss our blog
Hopefully you won’t be on any more hiatuses anytime soon (sorry if that sounds a bit selfish, lol
)

Hey Terry buddy, I’ve been real busy these days with projects and coming final exams. However, I do spare some time to check out your website for some eye candies.
I really like the new look of the blog. Keep it up!!!
Will chat with you another time.

@Melle: Thanks for the compliments, heheh
@Nel: Thank you! I’m glad the hiatus didn’t drag on forever because it will be very bad of me to leave all the interesting buzz around the blogosphere behind. Oh and anyway no worries about any more hiatuses (?), I don’t think I’ll be having another one soon.
@Jake: Hey Jake, thank you so much for taking some time off your very busy schedule to leave a comment. I’m really touched
all the best for your projects and exams! You’ll definitely do well!
@letti: Thanks!

Sweet re-design, Teddy! I visited this one last night and I was so blown away by the header and the expandable menu! And now I finally get to comment! Clearly, the three days of hard work paid off. This is really amazing!
(Need I note that I am totally loving the background of your comment area?! =D)
I am also really touched that something as small as my favicon could bloom into something as gorgeous as your theme! You clearly took it to the next hundred steps! Great great job! I think I’ll let this comment publish and I’ll continue oogling over the updates that you made, hehe! =D

@Id:
Hey there, thanks for dropping by! Heheh, I really really have to credit you for the inspiration Id… if weren’t for your favicon, I wouldn’t have got the idea to come out with this theme and it’s magnificent header navigation!
Oh and comment area background is there for fun, I might be changing it soon. Although I’m quite proficient in CSS styling, I’m still learning the ropes for the ones that have to deal with form and input elements.
As you can see, the styling for the ‘Post your comment’ section is still quite raw and incomplete. I should be styling this part (if possible!) in the next theme version

@Han: Thanks! I actually find the sidebar headings a little too bright on their own, I’ll be darkening them for the next version
and yea the icons got their colours from a colourwheel, that’s why they look as if they’re plucked off a rainbow.
@Aisyah: Wow it’s very honoured to have you around Aisyah! I mean, your designs are like 100 times better than mine… they’re a big source of inspiration if I ever needed that extra creativity juice.

This is great looking blog teddY! I always admire your design! I don’t really understand what you explain up there, but it sure make your blog look fantastic!
It does take time to open up your blog as i use a dial up connection, but it worth the time
Why don’t you sell your blog theme for a price? I believe many people would love to pay your design for some price
Keep up on your great job teddY!

@qureyoon: Hey thanks!
@Henbima: My bad, I guess I suck at describing things, haha
basically this theme is one that is css restyled from the minimalistic sandbox themes. Notable features include header icon navigation and collapsable sidebar
oh and sorry about being dial-up unfriendly! I’ve tried to minimise the file size of the images already. I think I’ll throw in more JPEG compression when I have the time to reupload the images.
@Momo: No don’t say that! When I first heard about Scriptaculous I was playing around with all the effects on their demo page
teehee, it was really fun!
@ingSiang: Thanks! Well the previous theme (Gamma) was a little disaster per se - I think it turned out to uglier than the older theme (Beta)… well luckily I didn’t let it stay out for too long (in fact, Gamma was only active for 2 months).
