teddY-risatioN™ Gamma Released!

I can’t believe it that it too my less than 3 days to get this theme done  but if you’re a regular visitor you would have realised that the general template and colour scheme did not vary a lot, besides the header and the footer, that is.

The reason why this theme is named teddY-risatioN™ Gamma is because I strongly believe in continuous improvement in my wordpress themes, there’s no way of stopping at Beta only :) fyi the previous theme s named teddY-risatioN™ Beta and the one before it, Alpha. Thus, the next one (if there’s any), will be Delta.

Here is a list of changes from the previous theme, teddY-risatioN™ Beta.

Wider Container

This also means forgoing 800*600 compatibility, but enables the main post area to display images up to 600px in width :) perhaps it’s a feature to suit this blog’s greater slant towards photoblogging instead of normal writing. For visitors who continue to use 800*600 resolution, I’m sorry for the inconveniences but there’s pretty much nothing I can do about it. Best viewed at resolution of 1024*768 and above. I would like to thank Ivy and Michelle on their advice they’ve given me about issues regarding screen resolution.

[Edit] - I was notified of a background image error when this theme is viewed in resolutions wider than 1024px. I’ve corrected the bug since, and tweaked the background image a little so there are stripes at both sides of the container. The stripes are made using an amazingly user-friendly and idiot-proof ajax generator called Stripe Generator.

Brand New Header Design

[Edit] - After giving it much thought I’ve decided to add a “Links” section to the top right corner of the header section. After reading on several online CSS tutorials regarding image rollerovers (the best and simplest one is probably by WellStyled.com), as well as referring to N.Design Studio’s Phoenix Theme top navigation bar rollerover code (you’ll need to read through the css stylesheet carefully though), I’ve come out with a rollover effect for the link images too. From the link bar you can access my RSS feed, Technorati profile, Facebook profile, DeviantArt profile and my flickr page.

Now this theme comes with a rotating header image - i.e. every time when you load the page, most probably a different header image will appear. They’re chosen from a set of my favourite photographs, and I have plans to extending the current 10 rotating headers to a size of 25 in the future. Let’s stick to 10 for the moment. If you happen to stumble upon a header image you hated badly, refresh the page to get another one  here’s the currently 10 images in rotation:

10 rotating header images

[Edit] - I’ve added another 7 header images into rotation. Have fun

Cleaner Searchbox

I wasn’t very happy with the previous theme’s search box, where it’s bulky and doesn’t really fit into the header well. So this time a little photoshop trick worked (used to create the curved edges of the curve box) and a short nifty javascript code to display the instructions in the input field when it is not focus (it disappear when you focus on it, though). The script could be found at Expert Exchange - Onfocus and Onblur article.

Design & Icon Acknowledgement

Without wonderful designers and authors sharing their css styles and icons, this theme wouldn’t even have existed.

Header navigation bar - the raw source code and styling comes from Laila’s Butterfly Theme. I just changed the colours, increased the height to suit the theme.

6 random flickr images - Instead of the previous 4, the wider sidebar is now able to accomodate up to 6 random flickr images (3 per row, that is). Click on them to access my flickr photos. The coding and styling is proudly shared by Veerle, in her Flickr Badge W3C Valid post.

Post information icons - The date, category and miscellaneous information are accompanied with small little icons by FamFamFam’s Mini Icons package.

Other icons - Majority of the icons are provided by the Dropline Neu! v0.10 package.

Revamped Footer

With Wordpress 2.3 inclusion of tags and tag cloud, I’ve inserted a tag cloud into the footer section (scroll down and you’ll see it), but looks like further css styling is needed. Although the general footer design did not vary much from the previous theme, the floating and alignment coding has been constructed ground up to solve compatibility issues.

Spacer

That’s all for this theme! Anyway I’m sorry that I didn’t post a Happy Valentine’s Day message! Wishing everyone a belated happy valentine’s day :) love is all around!

Bush Mackel: Thanks for the compliment :) heh I’m truly thankful! Actually I never really see it as clean because down at the footer it gets pretty ugly and cluttered, lol!

Yanni: Haha aiya actually my design skills not very good! I can only photoshop stuff! The core Wordpress php coding are more or less adapted from many different themes available online.

ingSiang: I’m fine with designing a wordpress theme, but maybe you’ll need to help me get a theme you would want be to modify. Seriously I’m not very good at php coding and styling, especially when it comes to floating elements, haha!

letti: Thank you! I am wondering what is the pixel resolution of your Acer monitor… is it HD compliant?

Grace: Thanks :) blue is my personal favourite as well, although I was told that purple brings me better luck, lol! Anyway my initial sketch of my new theme actually resembles yours (the part where you have your blog title on the left side of the browser)… haha!

eddy: Thank you! Actually I’m not some webdesign guru, lol! I still have a lot to learn about XHTML and CSS, and OMG I just heard that a new version of XHTML might be coming out. Gee. Anyway I’m really honoured to have someone spending hours reading my posts  thank you for visiting and commenting! P.S. you’re blogrolled!

Jason: Thanks! I guess the tag cloud at the bottom makes the footer a little too cluttered.

Hey teddy, it’s me. I leaved this site for a very long time. I am very busy doing my preparation for my UPSR exam this year. I thought of visiting your blogsite one day at my free time and it’s a surprise to know that you changed your site to a new theme with awesome edits. The blue stripes at the sides are very beautiful. The rotating headers also inspired me. I got my eyes opened after looking at the brand new Tag Cloud down here. Hey, why don’t you try patterns at the sides. I think it will be more beautiful. Keep posting those great blogs. Is this theme’s name Gamma ?? Well it’s weird but still good job. Well, this is my last time visiting here until September. I will sweep off the sweet memories of your blogsite from my mind now. So, I hope you enjoyed your day and happy go lucky. I will take footsteps from here now. See you again in September and I promise you that I will visit this great site of yours daily. Bye

Adam Danial: Hey there glad to see you comment :) ah wells before I start all the best for your UPSR (it’s the Malaysian primary school leaving examinations), try your best and most importantly, enjoy the learning process. UPSR isn’t really as hard as thought, just give it your best shot and you’ll be fine. Anyway thanks for all your compliments, I sincerely thank you for leaving them behind. Really thoughtful of you. I actually wanted to create a patterned sidebar but various graphical limitations have forced me to only pattern-ise the edge of the blog container (the alternating blue diagonal stripes on both sides, that is).

thecoffeesnob: Thank you! It’s actually a year since my last theme, teddY-risatioN™ Beta, so it’s time for a new one. I’ve been planning it more months!

eddy: Eddy, don’t feel sorry for asking! You can ask everything under the sun over here, and I’ll make sure that I’ll help out as much as possible, and respond to your queries whenever possible. Anyway urm that unhappy incident was quite some time ago, perhaps a few months, I can’t quite remember (unless I go check my archives, that is). It’s just about someone took my works and claim them as his. But he’s apologised since, and I have no reason to continue pursuing the issue. I just want to say that every blogger should respect each other’s work, and give credit whenever possible. For me, you can post my work, link my posts and etc from anywhere in the cyberspace, as long as you give me credit, I’m fine. There’s no need to go through the hassle of asking me first, since being linked and featured elsewhere is a great honour to me. But for others, a rule of thumb is better to ask beforehand :) it doesn’t kill to acknowledge someone for his work. Anyway thanks for your comment, I appreciate it!

Lovely new theme! I especially love the stripes!! I’d try to shorten the number of posts on a page though, because the amount of effort it takes to scroll is a lot more since the footer has become larger vertically.

Actually I think K2 is the best theme for customization around, it’s super powerful and very very clean. =) Anyhow, I need a version which is more erm, suitable photo-blogging (which in my own term, is not really the showing off of a single photo in full resolution in the front page, lol, it’s more like showing off a series of photos in a post, ie. an event photography post).

I’ll try to figure out my need and will let you see if you can get it done. =) Or perhaps I’ll the gfx in photoshop myself (also I sucks in it these days) and requires your help for the php, lol. =p

Btw, I lost my wallet, there goes my $130 for a new 50mm lens, darn it! =(

Check out ingSiang’s last blog post: Thanks Ah Goh! =)

Ivy: Thank you! The stripes are generated by Stripe Generator :) what I did was just darkening the stripe and changing the blending options to colour dodge (against a dark blue background), and fading it off at the sides, and this is what I got. Anyway yea I realised that my footer takes up one whole screen in 1024*768… I’ve now reduced the number of posts per page to 2. Congratulations for getting a new theme for your blog too - it’s gorgeous!

ingSiang: K2 is definitely an awesome theme! I’m wondering why I didn’t use K2 at the first place, lol! Maybe you can present your photos in a mosaic form, and then you can link each photos to a larger version (for better effects, try Lightbox 2.0 or it’s wordpress plugin)… sorry to hear that you’ve lost your wallet! But at least you lost $130 and not $500+ or more…

ingSiang: Hmmm anyway your unlucky incident reminded me of how I lost SGD$50 a few years back. I stuffed a hell lot of notes in my pocket and I think it slipped out when I tried to fish for a note :( gah, I was so depressed. But then my mom told me that it’s worth it - I’ve paid a mere $50 to learn a lesson, to be more careful next time.
