Here are two really big panoramas that I’ve managed to coax my laptop to stitch it for me without crashing, over the weekend. They are pretty huge and I don’t want to make the whole loading process a burden to every single visitor who drops by, so I’ve chose to tuck one of the bigger one (it weighs a wholly 1MB even with a mere 70% JPEG compression *gasp*) underneath the read more tag. In case you’re wondering, the panoramas are made using Autostitch. It’s not the best one around but it’s pretty good and does everything automatically for you :) that’s the part I love it!
I was walking around the campus with the tripod in my hand a few Saturdays ago. I’ve tried to capture light trails of the passing traffic when the idea of making a panorama out of it struck me. So I stationed myself at the bus stop right outside Hall 8 and snapped away. If you’re wondering what is that big building across the road, it’s actually the School of Art, Media and Design (which many of us joking call is SADAM). I’ve made a panorama out of that building a few months ago – check it out if you’re interested.
If the height of your browser display prevents you from viewing the entire vertical part of the panorama completely, you can always opt to view it in full screen ;)

And after the jump, we have another panorama! Be warned that the panorama is approximately 1MB in size, so be prepared to wait a little if you have a slow internet connection.
I guess the best part of living on campus while studying in NTU is the luxury of enjoying Mother Nature’s sweet embrace. I was aimlessly wondering around the campus a few weeks ago on a lazy Saturday morning and afternoon… and this is the panorama I’ve made. From the left, you will the the ADM (aka SADAM) building, followed by Hall of Residence 8, 9 and 10.

I guess that’s all for this update! I shall get back to that irritating Organic Chemistry chapter that I left off. Okay, see you guys!

Amazing!! Such beautiful views! You never cease to deliver beautiful pieces. My brother’s supposed to teach me how to stitch, I might just be inspired to try this out!
I really love the night view of the first one… I’m amazed that it actually didn’t blur or have smudges of light. You would have to have a stand or very still hands to do it. Do you have still hands :p?? I totally don’t!
The second one is beautiful… it has a patch of gray clouds in the sky that adds some more distinction to the day that it was being taken on. Beautiful!

Thank you! Oh, actually stitching photos together are quite easy. Just make sure that all the photos you’re intending to stitch together have common edges (ie overlapping views) so that the programme will know to stitch which photos together. Autostitch is a great programme, but one bad thing about it is that it’s pretty basic and fully automated – unlike other panorama-stitching applications, you can’t adjust the curves and etc, and you wouldn’t know if there’s any mismatch or flaw until the entire panorama is done.
The first photo is taken using a tripod :) I just rotated the head attached to the camera to get photos from a wide angle. I leave it on self timer too, to prevent shutter shake. I don’t have still hands, so no worries! You’re not alone!
Greetings,
Still, your posts never fail to inspire me. I really admire your mounting talent of taking pictures and edit them in your Adobe Photoshop. For the past few minutes, I’ve been reading your 2007 posts (Obviously, Some Just Don’t Grow Up) and I was thinking how lame and immature I was and for the last time, I want to apologize for my violence in using words. I took my UPSR Examination last two months and I just got the results two weeks ago and surprisingly, I got 5As and I was chosen to be the Johore’s National Best Student. Thank you for saving your time to read my response.

@Adam, thanls for your compliments. It’s okay about the past – that’s why it’s called the past. We learn from mistakes and gain experiences through time – not as if I have not made any in my entire life. The most important thing is to know how to change for the better. It’s okay, you don’t have to apologise – you’ve said it a few times already. Relax ;)
Congratulations on your excellent results! All the best for your future endeavours in your studies… you still have a long way to go, so hang in there!
That is so great! I really want to learn to do that. Awesomeness :)

@Jay, hey there! It has been quite a long time since I last went to your blog *bangs head against wall* sorry for the absence!
Anyway, thanks for your compliment! I hope you’ll have a really great weekend. Happy Thanksgiving anyway!
Does Autostitch stitch the photos vertically? or just horizontally?
