No it’s not a late April Fool joke. It’s for real!
Just like how the world observed an hour of darkness without illumination from lightbulb (well, that’s Earth Hour if you’ve forgotten what it was), the web is taking on an annual festival – disabling your website’s CSS stylesheet for 48hours starting on April 9th. I just learnt about it from Brandy’s blog, it sounds really fun – and most importantly, it lets you appreciate how much wonder and magic Cascading Stylesheets has brought to bloggers, blog readers, website visitors and webdesigners alike.
teddY-risatioN™ will be naked without CSS for 48 hours. I’m not going to care how ugly this blog looks – what really matters to me is that I’ve shown my appreciation of CSS and its developers!
Of course you can join, no matter whether you’re a blogger or not.
Have some naked fun!
When: 9th of April, 2008
Where: Your website, your blog or anything of yours that relies on the all-mighty CSS! It’s basically an Internet phenomenon across the globe.
What: Remove any CSS stylesheets associated with your site. And that’s all! Short and sweet.
If you’re interested, don’t forget to check out the main page of CSS Naked Day. There is where you’ll get a whole load of information behind the meaningful event, and don’t forget to sign up (but promise that you’ll strip your blog bare on that day!).
There’s even a Wordpress plugin for it!
Strip your blog bare, run naked around without CSS, laugh at how others’ (and my) blog look hilariously ugly without it. Drop a comment, give some love. Most importantly, be proud!
So what are you waiting for? Join in the fun! And if possible, help to spread the word!

I am still contemplating this! Haha! But kudos to you for joining in the spirit of the event! =D

wow its that time of year again! lol I did it last year too though learn from my disorganised mistakes – get the plugin, else you’ll do what I did and forget to turn the css back on!

you were making me very very worried. i almost thought my browser or internet was so faulty that it couldn’t load the page properly. which happens occasionally when the net is really ’shot’.
i don’t think blogspot uses css? hehe. =D
but your blog does look very different. seriously different. haha, kudos to the css inventors for making it possible
“Strip your blog bare, run naked around without…” sounds wrong~!~~! i left out the last word on purpose. =p

@Id: Thank you! Actually I kind of miss all my CSS styles :) but I’m still enjoying it.
@Han: Oh noes it sounded bad Han! Anyway I wanted to turn off the CSS stylesheet as well until I read about a Wordpress plugin available, special thanks to Brandy for mentioning it. The plugin automatically turns off your stylesheet without editing it, so it’s quite safe
@Melisssa: Haha don’t worry! I just stripped the blog bare of CSS, that’s all! The contents are still here, although you’ll need to do a little bit of searching.
@jason: I’m so sorry! I forgot to insert a piece of information at the top of the blog before I turned off the stylesheet. Now I’ve this header section telling readers that I’ve purposely turned off the CSS – it’s not some server error. Sorry to get you worried! Most blogspot templates have their CSS hardcoded into their theme file, so bloggers who use blogspot will have to remove the CSS themselves manually – but they have to save the original CSS too! P.S. yea it sounds really wrong!
@lix: Lol sorry! I’ve now inserted a piece of information at the top :) thanks anyway!
Even without CSS, it’s still more awesome than my layouts. LAWL! Too true, and you know it. :p
OMG I can’t believe it, no styling or anything! I wasn’t sure if I was on the right site.
Hmmn I don’t know if I will do it, for me April 9th is tomorrow… I’d feel so naked without my styling

@Melle: Haha are you sure? without CSS all the pages will look the same, heh!
@Nel: Yea initially I wanted to preserve my site layout with another stylesheet but the rules are that I’ll have to strip my blog from all stylesheets! So yep in the end there’s nothing left besides plain text and images.
@Brandy: Yeah definitely! Now I realised how important CSS is :)
I though there were something wrong with my browser ted. It load your blog so fast, until i read this “naked without CSS” post :D
lol…
I think i am late for the party

Even if I was not so busy, I don’t think I will consider taking down the CSS of my page for a day to make a point about web developing. Aside from uglifying the world for a day and scaring the crap out of people who have no idea what CSS is, it doesn’t do much. It’s too much developer-centric idea.
I totally understand Earth Hour though. Awareness aside, Earth Hour can save everyone some electric bills and lessen quite a bit of pollution.
Haha. I’m just a practical person like that. ;)
Check out Ivy’s last blog post: Protected: Betrayers of Buddhism
@Henbima: Precisely! I realised how heavy my stylesheet is when I disabled it for CSS Naked Day – my blog loads in just a split second without it and all the clunky images.
@Ivy: Yea you’ve got a point there – not everyone is aware of what does CSS actaully mean. Some might get freaked out about why so many pages go blank and ugly for a day (or two, depends on the webmaster’s choice), and I respect your choice and opinion. Well, I must say that I’m missing my stylesheet! It may not be as worthy as Earth Hour, but I think it’s good to make people aware of how important CSS is… which I didn’t previously. Now I’m going to appreciate and love CSS to bits
dang! I missed this. It’s already March the 10th.
me like being naked. haha.
